The 3-2 System For Guitar

A unique system to help you EASILY and QUICKLY play pentatonic scales and modes all over the fretboard, from the lowest note to the highest note.

3-2 System Introduction Video:

Have you tried learning the pentatonic scale using "Box Shapes" with 2 notes per string, with limited success?

Are you trying to get your head around what "Modes" are?

Can you sort of play one or two of them but get "stuck" when trying to join them all up together all over the fretboard?

If so, the 3-2 System is for you

This course will explain what the Modes ARE, how to practice them, how to use them to solo, and give you 3 different ways to make it easier to apply them in your playing

The 3-2 System was developed over 4 years while I taught many hundreds of guitar students to play pentatonic scales and solo over rock, blues and pop songs.

The problem I kept encountering was that no students ever learned all 5 of the "box shapes" so well that they could seemlessly join them up all over the fretboard. Nevermind students, I couldn't even do it myself!

2 of the 5 shapes, the first and the fourth, were useful for improvising, but the other 3 had clunky fingerings and just weren't that useful. And the 2 that were, well... when you play a box shape you tend to get stuck in that box! It's really hard to break away from that shape and play in higher and lower areas of the fretboard.

I gradually discovered a better way to think about pentatonics: a 5-note shape that you can learn within minutes. Then you can learn how this 5-note shape expands to every area of the fretboard from the highest note, to the lowest. This method does not rely on memorizing scale shapes; instead, you learn a simple set of rules for how the 5-note pattern spreads across the fretboard.

Practicing this method will bring you better results and faster, with your pentatonic improvising.

This is what you will learn in the 3-2 System Course:

  • The 3-2 pattern (and its reverse, the 2-3 pattern) up and down the neck in 3 octaves
  • How to move vertically (across strings) as well as horizontally (up and down 1 string)
  • How to add 2 extra notes to this pattern to make any mode
  • How to remove 2 notes from the pattern to make major and minor arpeggios

Reviews of our "Know Your Modes" course:

"The Modes Course really suited me and the level I’m currently at. I could move at my own pace, recap on explanations and rewatch Daniel’s very practical playing examples. It’s a resource that I’ll return to again and again." - Lorcan B.

"Who said scales are boring? *gasp* I just completed the Learn 4 Modes in 4 Weeks course and thoroughly enjoyed it for a number of reasons. It's fun to play a new scale and stretch the fingers in new ways and Daniel always gives practical examples and applications for it too. I found it massively improved my soloing. Daniel somehow manages to find a very practical and accessible way to see how the modes relate to each other, and, as a result, my ear is becoming more and more attuned every day. The cherry on top, and something I didn't expect, was how much learning the modes this way has enhanced my creativity and desire to practice." - Sinead L

"I‘ve done the course and think it‘s a very good introduction to modes. Daniel's relaxed teaching style makes it easy to follow and allows you to quickly put the theory into practice. I can only highly recommend this course to anyone who is looking for a fresh take on modes" - Tobias P.
